Cases Where Insurance Coverage Does Not Apply

Although insurance coverage provides protection to customers and rental companies, there are certain conditions under which insurance coverage is not valid.
The most common reasons for exclusion of insurance coverage include:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs – If the driver is found to have consumed alcohol or drugs, the insurance does not cover any damages or accidents.
  • Violation of the Road Traffic Act – The insurance does not apply if the driver is involved in an accident due to a serious violation, such as running a red light or driving in the wrong direction.
  • Unauthorized drivers – If the vehicle is driven by a person not included in the rental contract, the insurance coverage becomes invalid.
  • Using the vehicle outside of insured areas – Many insurance companies do not cover damage if the vehicle is moved outside of permitted areas, such as on unpaved roads.
  • Negligent or careless use of the vehicle – Insurance does not apply if the vehicle is used in a manner that shows negligence, such as racing or extreme driving.
  • Failure to report an accident – If the driver does not report the accident to the rental company or the authorities within the prescribed time frame, the insurance may not cover the damage.
